On Friday, we did some food shopping in Mea She'arim, an Orthodox neighbourhood. The streets were packed with people rushing around before Shabbos. Almost the entire city of Jerusalem closes for Shabbos (sunset Friday to dark on Saturday). Everyone prepares on Friday afternoon.

We also bought food at the Mahane Yehuda Market. It was jammed with shoppers. The market closed at 3:00 p.m. and by 2:30 the vendors were shouting prices, trying to clear their stands. It was deafening and we wished we could have captured the noise along with our photos.
