In an attempt to revive their less than stellar football program, Duke University hired a new coach. Rumour has it, his salary is somewhere around $1 million. Did he ever earn his money during the opening game! Duke beat James Madison University 31 to 7.
We saw Duke play last year while we were looking for apartments. They were horrible. This season, they looked like a different team. And the stands were filled - probably because the University gave away a ton of free tickets trying to build the hype for the new season.
Each Duke touchdown brought a new celebration on and off the field. It was sort of like watching a big Hollywood movie about football underdogs that finally win a big game. They've only won one game, so let's keep things in perspective, but it was an exciting start to the season.
