We spent our first U.S. Independence Day in Savannah, Georgia. A beautiful and historic city with tons to see, and only a 5 hour drive from Durham. To get started, we took a guided tour around the city. This is a photo of Mercer House, where all the excitement from "In the Garden of Good and Evil" actually took place. The house was used during filming of the movie. We're kinda cheap so we didn't take the Mercer House tour.

The oldest tree in Savannah.

A sample of the
beautiful architecture in Savannah. Most of the homes in the historic district have been restored and are truly stunning.

The Pirate House. Our first taste of Savannah, the most haunted city in America (really, they have a plaque to prove it). This restaurant is apparently haunted by the ghost of Captain Flint, who died calling for more rum.

The
Olde Pink House. What a find, and right across from our hotel. A great restaurant with a cozy piano bar in the basement.
